The #4 Mustangs faced #1 seed Arroyo Grande in a dramatic CIF SS Division 3 semifinal matchup,
Costa gave the Eagles everything they could handle, but in the end, it wasn’t enough to make a return trip to the championship game as the Mustangs lost 7-5.
The Mustangs started out strong and actually led 4-1 in the first half as Kelly Giery would open with a 5 meter goal in the first, and Kaylee Brownsberger, Giery and Aminadi Anorve each scored within a span of just over two minutes in the second period. Arroyo Grande would score again just before the half ended to close the gap to 4-2.
Arroyo Grande found their grove in the third and fourth period as they went on a 5-0 run to lead 7-4. Kaylee Brownsberger scored again with 3:24 left in the game, but Costa just could not get a good look and ultimately lost 7-5.
In the end, the Mustangs gave #1 Arroyo Grande everything they could handle but were not able to overcome the Eagles’ second half flurry. It was a spectacular effort against a really good team… An Arroyo Grande team that was good enough to beat Riverside King 6-4 to win the 2015 CIF SS D3 Championship.
Hold your head high Mustangs and thanks for a great season.
Go Mustangs!
